WE ARE RUGBY is an interactive rugby rankings and debate platform. Rugby fans have always argued about the same questions — who was the greatest, who makes your starting XV, who would you actually pick with a Test match on the line. We built a place where those arguments are both written down and played out.
There are two halves to the site. Our editorial rankings make the case for the greatest players in the game. Our interactive challenges then hand the decision to you.
HOW OUR RANKINGS ARE PUT TOGETHER
Every ranking we publish is written by the WE ARE RUGBY editorial team. We set out the criteria at the top of each article — peak level, sustained performance, impact on the game, and what the player meant in the era he played in — and then we commit to an order.
We do not pretend a ranking is objective. Comparing an amateur-era forward with a modern professional will always involve judgement. What we promise is that the reasoning is explained, the facts are checked against the public record, and no number on the page is invented.
HOW THE CHALLENGES WORK
A blind ranking shows you one player at a time. You place him into a spot from 1 to 5 immediately, without knowing who is still to come — and you cannot go back.
Put a good player at number one early and you may regret it when a legend appears two cards later. At the end, your five picks are revealed in countdown order and you can share the result or send the same challenge to a mate in exactly the order you played it.

Photographs are reviewed and approved individually before they appear on the site. Where an approved image is not available, a branded placeholder is used instead.
